Why does it hurt so much (my jaw)?!

Question: Why does it hurt so much (my jaw).?
Sometimes, toward the back or top of my jaw area REALLY hurts, and even will cause an earache. It happens maybe once or twice in a 3 week period. i thought maybe my wisdom teeth, but its been a long time, and it happens so rarely and only for a half hour time that i havent had anyone look at it... what could it be.?! for example, while it is hurting if i even TOUCH a piece of food to my tonge it hurts 1000 times worse, but it is NOT a tooth.?.?.? any dentists out there!.?!.?!.?!.?Health Question & Answer

It could be TMD-temporal mandibular joint dysfunction. If you're stressed, or just a night clencher (which you won't know unless someone is next to you and hears you) your jaws will be sore. It causes muscle spasms (painful and they come and go) which is what it sounds like you are describing. Are your jaw muscles tense in the morning.? Is it sore to the touch in front of your ears.? Either way, you should get to your dentist for an evaluation. TMD can be managed with meds like Motrin and sometimes they recommend a splint that fits over your teeth to wear at night so you don't damage anything. Sorry so long...hope it helps.Health Question & Answer

I would go to a dentist. That doesn't sound good. Health Question & Answer
