Fixed bridge for crooked teeth? (10 points)?!

Question: Fixed bridge for crooked teeth.? (10 points).?
Hi.

I had porcelain veneers placed on my 6 upper teeth last year. My bottom teeth are too crooked for veneers, but my dentist said he could pull two of the crooked ones and do a 5 unit fixed bridge and they will be straight. I really don't want braces, but I'm kind of nervous about doing the bridge.

Sooo.. I have a few questions if someone can answer..

1. Would a bridge on my lower front teeth look and feel like veneers.?

2. Would they look natural.?

3. Are they bulky.?

4. Are they prepped like veneers.?

5. Should I do it.?

ThanksHealth Question & Answer

1. a bridge will not feel exactly like veneers. I bridge covers all of your teeth from front to the back side of your teeth. Sort of like a thimble over a thumb. A veneer only covers the front and sides of the tooth (the back side is open). also you will have 2 areas where their are no teeth underneath of the bridge, so you will have to clean well underneath of it. A bridge is one unit and are connected together. Veneers are like separate teeth.

2. a bridge can look pretty natural if done well. I think veneers tend to look more natural though.

3. They are a little more thicker than veneers

4. They are prepped a lot more than veneers. They have to take away more tooth structure to account for the thickness of the bridge. The teeth look like little "pegs" after they are prepped.

5. The only other option would be braces. If you for sure do not want to do braces and you are set on having straight teeth, then the bridge is a good option. I always tell people if you can, ortho treatment is better of course because you will have your natural teeth and you do not compromise any of the teeth. But there is nothing wrong with a bridge. Just make sure the dentist is good with cosmetic procedures and they are going to take their time with making sure it looks nice and natural. Maybe ask if he/she has pictures of other cases they have done. Health Question & Answer

HELLO ANTHONY,

1=You will never be able to floss through a bridge as with veneers.
2=it looks natural if teeth were pulled out and the bridge is placed
3=it's not as bulky as a partial removable denture
4=NO.
the prep is much more aggressive. The teeth are ground to thin pegs to hold the bridge
5=WHETHER YOU SHOULD OR NOT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU VALUE MOST.
The upper veneers were a good choice since most can easily notice this, but are the LOWER teeth in NEED, NOT JUST A WANT of repair.?Health Question & Answer

You'll look great, do it, I did, but I had 3 crooked ones pulled, and had a partial in there, for 2 yrs before I did my whole upper mouth. My two front teeth and a tooth next to the two others. The permanent bridge is excellent. It looks great and you can't tell it is any different from the rest of the uppers.
Do it, It's really worth it.
It took me 4 yrs to initialy get those 3 pulled out. I couldn't stand them.
For the 1st time in my life I can smile and feel good!Health Question & Answer
