University of Toronto information.?!

Question: University of Toronto information..?
I am considering making an appointment with the Dental Clinic in the University because I might need a root canal and money is really tight and I have no insurance. I just wondered if it is a huge savings going there. I would hate to go for a two hour appointment, like they say, and then find out it is not much of a savings. If anyone has gone there and has had some work done, could you tell me what you had done and how much the original cost was versus the amount that you paid. I need other work done, but a root canal for now, so all information you have would be very helpful. Thank you.Health Question & Answer

I'm going to assume that U of T is similar to UWO (Western.) Here's how things work there...

At UWO, the prices are about 60% of what you would pay in a private dental practice. Appointments are three hours long. also, because you will be worked on by a student, you may need more than one appointment, as sometimes things can be slow going, and the instructors oversee every step of the way (so sometimes there can be a bit of a wait if other students need to be checked off too.)

also, don't be surprised if before the root canal is done, you have to go to the clinic for an initial examination where they take your medical history and x-rays...And you'll probably have an initial screening appointment before that to see whether your case is too complicated or simple enough to be done by a student. Here's the link to the U of T site: http://www.utoronto.ca/dentistry/patient...

You'll have to take all of this into account. If you work a job where you are paid by the hour or have trouble taking time off for multiple appointments, then you may not save much in the long run.

We students are really grateful to our patients though! Especially the ones who need root canals, which seem hard to come by these days. :) Thanks for considering the dental school clinic and good luck with your treatment, wherever you go!Health Question & Answer
