Is it normal for front teeth to shrink with age?!

Question: Is it normal for front teeth to shrink with age.?
i am 21, and my front teeth seem to be shrinking from the sides and the bottom... and i dont really mind it too much since they are so damn big anyway, but i dont know what is going on, i am not grinding them, and they seem to have an "unzipping" effect in the middle, it is hard to explain. also, is it normal for them to be kind of see-thru in the bottom.? sorry for explaining this all poorly;;;Health Question & Answer

Answers:
majority of people grind their teeth while they are sleeping and they dont even know it. the office i work at makes night guards especially for these types of patients. if your teeth are see through at the ends this is because the enamel is wearing thin. evetually if it becomes weak enough then it will start chipping. what we do is build up these edges with composite (white filling material) and make a night guard right after so that you can wear it at night to prevent further breakage. another way to tell if you are grinding at night in most people is if you look under your tongue to the right and left, you may see bony growths projecting out from your teeth towards the base of your tongue, these are called tori, they get bigger as you continue to grind, at least thats what studies show. talk to your dentist and see if (s)he can build up your teeth and make you a night guard.

a test you can do to see if your grinding is align your top and bottom teeth end to end and move them from side to side until you notice the teeth kind of meet together like a jigsaw puzzle, if they fit into one another, meaning for example, the top teeth seem to have cut their shape out in the bottom teeth so they rest in a flush manner, then you definately are grinding. Sounds to me like you should get in to see your dental hygienist because your description sounds like your gums are swelling (gingivitis) and this is causing the the appearance of smaller teeth. The see through bottom is the enamel wearing off of them so that is something else that will need to be addressed. Due to the gums swelling it will be pushing your teeth into a different position and thus starting that "unzipping" look you are talking about. Set an appointment very soon before you start to loose your teeth. You can have posts put in for false ones but that is no answer when you can still save your teeth now! Good luck.Health Question & Answer
