I'm going to go crazy..help?!

Question: I'm going to go crazy..help.?
Well i went to the dentist today and they told me it would be a good time to get my wisdom teeth pulled since im 18. So i set up the appointment and they told me i was going to have an iv put and so they could put me to sleep when they do it. I am a freak when it comes to needles, i scream and cry and sometimes pass out. I have 3 tounge rings and a belly ring and those did not bother me at all..?. So my question is since i have never had an iv how bad does it hurt and how long does the pain last getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled if they have not broke the gums yet.? Thanks in advanceHealth Question & Answer

Hey I know what you mean I have a Major fear of needles stemming from a surgery I got a while back.. I throw up every time and usually pass out and this is before they even poke me! iv's are NO FUN they hurt like hell and if your someone with a fear of needles like me every second that needle is in your it throbs the whole time and you just want it out! I am not trying to scare you I am just telling you I understand where you coming from.

Now what to do: They make nubing cream for people who are getting iv's Its this stuff that you put in the spot they plan to poke you and cover it up with the peice of plastic that comes along with it (so it soaks in well) and leave on for 30 min. before they plan to iv you any doc office or sometimes dental office does carry it. And this greatly relieves the freak out moment for me since I can't feel when it's going in. Call the office, explain your situation and ask them for the numbing cream. Hope I helped!Health Question & Answer

they are going to cut into your gums. it is going to hurt for a while. why get them removed.? My wisdom teeth came in with no problem, didn't rot and don't hurt. well, they hurt a little when they came in, but are all fine now. Health Question & Answer

I had my widsom teeth removed at the age of sixteen. They had no gum through the gums yet and I was put under by IV. The IV was the worst part of the entire process, inlcuding the healing process afterwards. IV's feel the same as getting a shot, once it's in it doesn't hurt anymore. The only pain you'll feel after it's over with is when they remove the IV because they'll more then likely tape it down. My advice to you, drink LOTS of WATER before your appointment. By doing this they wont have a difficult time fiding a vein and you'll only have to get poked once. Everyone deals with pain differently, but trust me when I tell you it's alot eaiser to get your wisdom teeth out NOW then waiting years down the road and having to go to an oral surgon.Health Question & Answer

You could ask the dr. for a mild sedative to the take the morning of the appointment to help with your anxiety. the iv is really not painful (it's a pinch) and you go "out" in a manner of seconds.

I had all four taken out at one time. You may or you may not have swelling. Even if you have swelling, it goes down in a day. The first few hours after surgery are the toughest, when the pain med first wears off and you have to change out the gauze. They will prescribe pain medication and the gauze part get easier after that..

Follow your doctors instructions. Wisdom teeth extractions are pretty common.

Good luck, I'm sure you're gonna do just fine.

omg u can get all those pericings but u cant take a IV stick, its just a little sting that last no longer then 2 seconds. The needle dosent stay in you a catheter does and that how the medicine is infused. Now as far as the pain of the wisdom teeth, well we're all individuals and it can last a few days to a week or more. But you didnt say that you were having any pain with these widsom teeth coming in so im not sure why hes wanting to pull them, maybe you need a second opinion as to whether you need them out or not. Just because your 18 is no reason to pull them. Health Question & Answer

Trust me when I say take the IV! You won't remember a thing...

If you are scared of the needle going in, ask them to prescribe you a sedative to take just a little while before you go. I took a Valium about 30min before my procedure and I could have cared less what they did when I went in to get my IV --- I was petrified before I took the pill and had a terrible time with a previous extraction. I woke up after having this extraction and was fine... just loopy.

You won't know how much time passes, but it will probably be 30-60minutes in total. You will get all numbed up, then drugged, and you will be happy as can be. You will wake up and then go home and go to bed, with someone near by to help you change your guaze pads and give you meds. The next day you will be swollen and sore, but should be fine. The IV allows them to not have to physically fight you if you are still awake during the procedure - your body is more relaxed and they can get the teeth out easier this way.Health Question & Answer
