What is the military looking for during there dental exams?!

Question: What is the military looking for during there dental exams.?
The USMC more specifically, the reason I ask is because my jaw is crooked and makes a popping noise sometimes when I move it, and my bottom teeth are all crooked. Apparently none this can be fixed until I am fully grown (orthodontist says 21 at the latest) but I hope to be in the military by then.Health Question & Answer

They usually give you a form that must be filled out by a dentist. what they are looking for is anything that my hinder your performace like cavites left untreated or existing abscess etc, because if your deplay dental treatment may not be avaiable so they want you to be in stable condition before going. they dont really care about crooked teeth, only if there are existing problems.

Okay, support the troops! and all that, but military dental care sucks. So unless you tell them specific stuff that you think is a problem, they won't look for much other than to see if you have a debilitating problem that will affect your performance.

For instance, a buddy of my dad's is in Iraq, and he had an infected couple of teeth. You wanna know why.? Because military dentists left gauze inside the teeth to rot when they did a half-arsed root canal on him. Just one of the horror stories...

That being said I'm sure that it's not quite that bad any more, but how straight your front teeth are is not really their most important concern.

As long as you are specific in what YOU think they should be looking at, then you won't have much of a problem.Health Question & Answer
