Is it just a myth that sugar causes cavities?!

Question: Is it just a myth that sugar causes cavities.?
I heard this in a "Things that Doctors don't want you to know" book..Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Well, in my opinion, I think anything can cause cavities, because everything has its own amount of plaque. So, in general, sugar can cause cavities, but so can other food if you do not brush and floss properly.
Ps- Those books are awesome, but are they always truthful.? We are so use to the modern day stuff that doctors tell us, maybe it is just a way to make money.?Health Question & Answer

Truthfully it is not the sugar that causes cavities but the failure to remove plaque from the teeth in a timely manner. Bacteria that remains and tansforms into a harmful plaque metabolizes the sugar and the by-products(acids) of this bacterial digestion attack the teeth. Other food products can also be used by the bacteria to produce the harmful by-products that attack the teeth. The key is to fully remove plaque from the teeth by brushing and flossing.

Sugar is the cause for other physical ailments such as obesity and diabetes but that is another story. Sugar does not cause cavities - poor oral hygiene does.Health Question & Answer
