i had braces. and they weren't a pain until they were tightened, and i have a history of migraines, so they would cause them maybe the first into the second day after tightening, but after that...no hurting at all. just annoying bumps on your teeth that you get used to. i used to catch and cut my lip on them every once in a great while. but nothing serious.

as for color combos. you can do whatever you want! you can do holiday colors. ex:: xmas-green/red. halloween black/orange. school colors, if you've got THAT much spirit--god knows i didnt!! :). red/blue for the 4th or memorial day/labor day. or just 1 solid color.....whatever you want to do. its your mouth.

as for percautions, avoid extra sticky/chewy gum. i found that like extra-the kind that doesn't stick to your teeth was the best with braces. but you could experience different. i'd just stay away from things like double bubble, hubba bubba-things like that. i wouldn't chew taffy. always carry an oral pick of some sort. because the moment you don't have one, is the moment you get something stuck in your braces you can't get out. brush daily, if you don't, you'll get calcium deposits or cavities around where the actual brace was stuck to your tooth. and always have the wax on hand, too!

other than my personal experience, your orthodontist will give you more precise directions to follow to maximize your orthodontal care.

hope i could help a bit! :)

X3Health Question & Answer

Well, I first got braces when I was in the fourth grade.
I am in the eighth grade now.
I remember the first night, they really, really hurt, probably because the brackets were tight.
They will feel funny the first few days, even when eating, don't worry, you'll get used to it.
No, you shouldn't be scared. Even though it hurts the first time, don't worry, the pain should go away the next day or two..
But I didn't have "speed braces" when I had braces, only because they weren't available, and I got mine early, so no one had braces in my class but me.
But that's okay.
I always picked one color.
Don't pick black, though. Just take my word for it.
OR aqua.
I ate chicken noodle soup and the bands turned yellow. Ick.
Your dentist will tell you how to take care of your teeth, he/she will give you a special tooth brush, and some wax incase your braces cut the insides of your mouth. (Don't worry, it's not as bad as it sounds)
Good luck!Health Question & Answer

The only pain that I remember from my braces was when they took them off. That hurts quite a bit. But other than that, as long as you're careful, you should be fine.

Colors: Avoid black or yellow, because that will just make your teeth look dirty. Eww.

Your orthodontist will give you all the precautions you need when you get them, just follow what he/she says!Health Question & Answer

they really arent that painful. just when you get them tightened its a little sore thats it though. dont be scared. they really arent close to as bad as i thought. you'll be fine. be careful of the colors you choose though because some can get stained from foods and make them different colors.Health Question & Answer

Braces aren't that painful. They just make your teeth sore the first few days after they are tightened. They can also rub sores on the insides of your lips and cheeks. You'll want some wax and some orajel.

It's worth it in the end.....I promise :)Health Question & Answer

Only briefly when put on, and when their tightened. I remember some of my friends saying they even got severe headaches after they were tightened.Health Question & Answer

they were a little sore once i got them on but not bad use some baby orajel that helps and make sure u get plenty of wax
avoid colors like clear and white it shows everything Health Question & Answer

Don't be scared. They only hurt when you first get them and when they're tightened.Health Question & Answer
