Answers:
Because dental hygienists are in high demand there are many applicants for a limited number of spots in the program. I recently read that, although nurses are also in high demand, it's hard to get into a nursing program because the same shortage also affects nursing FACULTY. The same may very well be true of the dental hygiene field--not enough instructors to turn out all the hygienists we need.

So if you do get into a program, you'll know that you were one of the top applicants, and when you graduate, you should have your pick of jobs!
