Why does my saliva turn into ?!

Question: Why does my saliva turn into .?
whenever i run to exercise, i find that my spit or saliva turns into mucus, and it is really sticky, is that normal.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
That's because your saliva is controlled by two different types of nerves in your body. Your sympathetic nervous system is in charge of your "flight or fight" response: increased heart rate, dilates your organ blood vessels, dilates your breathing tubes, makes you sweat, etc. Your parasympathetic nervous system is good for "resting" states: it helps you digest, slows your heart, etc.

Your sympathetic nervous system is turned on more while you're exercising. One thing it does is make your saliva thicker and full of proteins and mucous instead of water. (No one's really sure WHY that is, but it probably relates to conserving water and reducing the need to eat.) When your PARAsympathetic nervous system turns on, your saliva becomes runny and watery because that system speeds up digestion and helps you eat.

So there's a real reason and cause for it! Cool stuff, huh.?Health Question & Answer
