Tylenol #3 not working, waiting for root canal.?!

Question: Tylenol #3 not working, waiting for root canal..?
I've been in a lot of pain lately while I'm waiting to get my root canal. Today my dentist gave me tylenol 3 with codeine. He said I could take 2 pills every 4-6 hours. It isn't helping me with the pain at all. Can anyone help.? It's the worst pain I have ever experienced. Why isn't it helping!.?Health Question & Answer

My mom is an Endodontist ( root canal ) and I was in horrible pain couldn't sleep etc. She went out and bought me two tubes of orajel, disgusting yes but it helped so much, I had to apply it often but it worked for the two days until she could squeeze me in her office. No painkillers helped me at all.Health Question & Answer

Well antibiotics take 48 hours to go through your system so if your appt is more than 2 days away call the DDS and they can call in an rx to your pharmacy and while you are there pick up some orajel. This will numb the tooth and take the pain away. Sleep with you head propped up. This should help.Health Question & Answer

ok i work for an endodontist and if tylenol 3 doesn't work then we tell them to take 3 ibuprofen & 2 extra strength tylenol its like vicodin but without all the side effects... like making you sleepy or ditzy =]

You need to see if the dentist can call you in some antibiotics. This is an infection and painkillers won't always help. Health Question & Answer
