They have a special tool that they use to just kind of pop the brackets off. It takes maybe 20-30 minutes to take a full set of braces off. It does NOT smell bad! It does NOT hurt to have your braces taken off--you'll just feel pressure and you'll hear weird sounds. Having your braces removed won't stain your teeth, but if you didn't take excellent care of your teeth while in braces OR if you used whitening toothpaste then you might have slightly stained teeth. You generally get fitted for the retainer the very day they take the braces off...and then you get the retainer about a week later.

They take something like pliers and clip of each brace. As long as you brushed your teeth well it won't smell and it won't leave a stain. Depending on your doctor they try to give you your retatiner right away. It doesn't hurt. It just takes a little while to get used to. After wearing it for a long time it actually becomes uncomfartable to have it off!Health Question & Answer
Well i get mine off in january :) but i watched my brother get his off.
They took a tool and at the back of his teeth they unhooked the braces and it hurt minorly bad.
and usually it takes 15-25 minutes. it feels weird cuz the glue to hold the brakets. your teeth r only stained IF you dont floss or brush.
and you get your retainer inprints that day then usually pick it up within 1 day to a week!Health Question & Answer
