I'm 16teen. And i've decided i want braces. my mom is going to set up an appointment with my doctor. and im just wondering if they hurt or anything because i really hate the dentist and needles,etc. i need someone who has had or has braces to answer please.Health Question & Answer

About 2 hours after they put them on they will start to hurt just because of the increased pressure on your teeth. That will last for about a week. It's not a horrible pain or anything. And when you go for adjustments they will get a little sore for a day or two. It's really not that bad. Oh, and they don't use needles or anything. Basically they use a special type of glue to put the brackets on and then they put wire into little slots on the brackets. It only takes them like an hour to do it all. I just got my braces off about 2 months ago and I had them for 4 years. Which by the way is an unusually long time to have them. My teeth were really jacked up.Health Question & Answer
No, it does not hurt at all. Braces are just glued to teeth and there are no needles involved. However sometimes dentist have to pull some teeth to make room for other to move in. Teeth extraction can be painful as you know. Further after fixing the braces the dentist puts wire in braces which starts putting pressure for move teeth and this will lead to pain for 5-7 days but you can take pain killer tab for that. I have braces and will have them for 4 years this april. Braces don't really hurt when you first get them on. It's just awkward feeling. It takes you a while to get used to them. Whenever you go and get them tightened and stuff they will be pretty sore. But it will only make your smile look better. I'm getting mine off December 1st! i got braces on in 5th grade and got them off the summer before sophomore year in high school, so i have experience. my mouth was really sore and it was weird having something glued onto my teeth, but it wasn't unbearably painful. i might have taken tylenol or something the day after.. it was a while ago, though. but the satisfaction of getting them off was so worth it.Health Question & Answer
I got my braces off about a year ago. Getting them on doesnt really hurt, its just the couple of weeks afterward that do. Make sure to have lots of pain killers during that time. Your wont even be able to chew soft bread. So be sure to stock up and smooth foods. (ice cream, yogurt, soup...)

people warned me it would hurt like theres no tomorow but when i got mine on i didnt feel a thing... they just need time to get used to.. akward is a better word to decribe it....

well if there just getting put on then no. they may feel a bit odd for the first few days, but that only thing that will really hurt is getting a new wire put on. and you will quickly get used to it. so good luck with the braces and make sure you keep food out of em =)Health Question & Answer

It will hurt if they put spacers in your teeth and braces are very uncomfortable when they are tightened.

Getting them put on doesnt really hurt but when they tighten them its a @!*%$ after that its when the real pain begins.Health Question & Answer

stick to foods like soup, yogurt, etc etc.
aspirin comes in handy
