Wisdom teeth extraction- pain as hell?!

Question: Wisdom teeth extraction- pain as hell.?
I had all my 4 wisdom teeth extracted.. 2 on the right were simple extraction- while the left is more surgical.. I did it last Friday & it still hurts- Dr. said that it would be getter as day progresses-but does not seem to be the case. I have been taking Vicodin for relief - but the last few days, I feel constipated; on calling the nurse, i was told it could be bcos of Vicodin- so, i stopped having Vicodin today. I feel like I am gonna die of pain. How long does the pain usually last.? What say about constipation.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
The pain WILL subside, but it really depends on the person. Mine were taken out surgically last Friday as well, and I felt fine the next day. Your best option is to get off the Vicodin as soon as possible because that stuff has nasty side effects.

Take Tylenol, and sleep. That's all you can really do. If the pain persists I suggest calling your dentist ASAP, as you may have dry socket or another type of infection. Tell them you need to come in because you are under the assumption you have dry socket, or some other infection. Just tonight I had an infection treated; it's really important you do so. Infections can spread, so if the pain doesn't go away, get it checked.

Best of luck.Health Question & Answer

I was in pain for at least a week, maybe two, and I only had one wisdom tooth extracted. I don't think I was on Vicodin, so I don't know what to tell you about the constipation. But if you really don't want to take it, maybe try an over-the-counter pain reliever like Aleve and put an ice pack on your face for as long as you can stand it. Health Question & Answer

You may want to take some Ibuprophen if you can't get any more vicodin. It worked for me. As far as the constipation, mine was a whole week, and yes it was from the pain pills (I had percocet which does the same thing). Keep eating fiber, coffee also helps. Fish oil or something of that nature should also help.Health Question & Answer

the constipation is from the vicodin but im sure you will eventually go poo poo dont worry haha. I would give it 2 total weeks to stop hurting and then start worrying. and you should feel awesome with the vicodin. if it says 1 every 4-6 hours....take 2 or if you dont think you can handle it...take IB profen with the Vicodin.Health Question & Answer

i completely understand. i had all of my wisdom teeth surgically removed and my dr that did it was a moron. my face was swollen for about a week with huge bruises i was so embarrassed to go anywhere.

eat warm soft foods, and take 800mg of ibuprofen like every 8 hrs.. but no more than that!! i know it hurts!! 4 advils would work best, because they dont sell 800mg over the counter.. but they are anti inflamitory, so it will take the swelling out. that should help with the pain.

good luck.

Health Question & Answer

Call dentist, might have dry sockets. Almost all pain meds can cause constipation or obstruction, drink fluids, stop pain meds except for Ibuprofen if not allergic. Warm compresses to face if you can stand it. But,still need to contact dentist incase of infection, food caught or other.Health Question & Answer

you're scaring me a little, i'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled out next week. you were put under, right.? and it hurts!.? now i'm REALLY nervous.Health Question & Answer

take some more vicodin ;)Health Question & Answer

mine are already out it hurts a LOT!!!!!Health Question & Answer

I had my wisdom teeth out last year and they were also no just simple extractions. It is normal for deeper rooted teeth to be more painful and swollen, to help the pain:

sleep-you can't feel it then
keep crushed ice on as long as possible
take the vicodin! or strong Ibprofen
don't move alot or try to chew anything

The constipation is due to the Vicodin, you have to decide if you want to deal with that or with the pain.

I got dry socket, a condition caused by the blood clot getting detached from the hole. this is extremely painful, probably the worst I have fel in my life. Buy the end, even heavy narcotics would not stop the throbbing. If this the case for you, a dentist can tell right away and treat it. Once they do, the pain is better within ten minutes, so try seeing your surgeon or other dentist asap.

Hope i helped =)
