Do children need a full set of teeth before braces can be fitted?!

Question: Do children need a full set of teeth before braces can be fitted.?
My daughter is 5 and has lost all her baby front teeth including her two top canines. Two incisors at the botton have already come through and have grown quite a bit but they face inwards and are growing towards each other too. I realize some corrective dental work will be needed but was wondering at what point they can start with it.? Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Just about every orthodontist in the US offers free consultations. You could call your daughter's dentist to find out who he/she recommends and schedule an appointment. It is possible to do some corrective work in younger children, but probably not as young as your daughter, as they have a difficult time handling any kind of orthodontic treatment. You will get your best answer from someone who has a chance to actually see what's going on in your daughter's mouth. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Usually its left until all adult teeth r through fully. I had braces on my top and bottom teeth at around the age of 15/16 years old. However it was a waste of time at that point. They were in for 2 and a half years very painful and to begin with really embarrasing but i got used to them. My teeth werent too bad but most noticably the front 2 top teeth overlapped. The reason i felt it was a waste of time then is because my wisdom teeth came in and pushed the teeth back to where they had been before. I went back at the age of 26 and had my top teeth re done, again it was a fixed brace that couldnt b taken out and it was as painful as the 1st time round although it only took 3 months this time round. Once the teeth have been straightened a clear plastic retainer must b worn to keep them in their new position and unfortunately due to really bad morning sickness and badly bleeding gums during my pregnancy i have been unable to wear my retainer every night and my teeth have began to move back again. If i thought it was embarrasing the 1st time round it was worse at 26 but now at almost 28 i would do it again the end result is worth it and theres nothing nicer than a nice smile with nice teeth. Hope this info helps xHealth Question & Answer

a lot older than 5 I think...

most of the people I know that have had braces, and ones I've seen, are in their teens...I don't think treatment can start before then...I have spent a lot of time at the orthodontists and didnt see anyone below that age.
Why don't you take your daughter to see your dentist who can give some advice.?.? She should have had her first visit before now anywayHealth Question & Answer

Yes, all adult teeth must be through. It's possible that the two teeth will continue to move when the others come through. You must let them all settle in first.

Pre-teen years are popular for this work, I myself had mine fitted at 15.Health Question & Answer
