I just got braces yesterday.
They don't hurt as soon as you get them they just feel really weird. Like I sat up from the chair and it felt really weird closing my lips. About an hour or two after is when it will start to be uncomfortable. It's not pain like the kind of pain from a shot, but it's more just of an annoying pain, if that makes sense.
The braces will feel really weird and you know when you put gum in front of your teeth.? Well it will feel like that but also with the gum putting pressure on your teeth, also if that makes sense.
It will be weird to close your lips too, you will feel like you have to grab your lips and pull them over your teeth.
It will be difficult to eat. Your teeth will hurt so that you can't chew so you are stuck eating soft foods or food that can be cut into small pieces that don't require chewing. I take small pieces and then use my tongue and the roof of my mouth to sort of "chew" and then I swallow.
Take Motrin or Advil before and after your appointment.
Don't be nervous they don't really hurt it's just that they are annoying and weird feeling.

Well, when i first got mine it was very weird but, yeah it was painfully but, you just need to eat soft foods like alot of soup, mash potatoes, ice cream yogurt. but it took me a week to eat regular food.. but it really depends and when you go for another appointment they usually check to make everything is just right and they change colors and when i got my colors changed it hurt a little but, i am use to it and later on they tighten it and it wont hurt as bad

eat lots of mashed potatoes and pudding on those days...
take a painkiller if it really hurts...

The first time you get braces they may hurt you, for 1-2 days maybe a week, but the pain will definitely go away very soon.Health Question & Answer
