Am I getting ripped off OR not?!

Question: Am I getting ripped off OR not.?
I work at a small restaurant in my town, Iam 16 years old and work from 3:00 pm to 8:oo pm after school. My employer is paying me under the table and I was wondering it that's legal. This is my first job and I've never dealt with the process. Ive received one paycheck so far and it was for 23.75 hours at minimum wage which she pays me at 6.80 an hour. On my "paycheck" which by the way isn't an official paycheck because she just wrote down the info on a piece of paper says that the gross is 161.50, the Fit is 14.99 which by the way what is that.? The SS which I can only assume its the social security is 16.21 and the Med,(what is that) 3.79, which in the end I received 126.51 dollars and I worked for 23.75 hrs. so she says, I dnt keep records.......Ive started to though, because I suspect she is ripping me off, and I dnt know what to do.....have I mentioned I never filled out an application and she has no information on me nor my social security and where is all this cash that she is deducting from my paycheck going.? I dnt know what to do or how to word my worries. Please can someone fill me in so I can know whats the deal here

ps, she is an intimidating woman(boss lady)

You're getting ripped off and she can end up in jail. She can't be sending your deduction to SS because she doesn't have your number . "Paying under the table" means you're not listed as an employee so you don't pay taxes and she therefore doesn't deduct. So she does deduct and pockets the money. There are businesses that go under when these schemes are discovered. Hang on to your "pay stubs" and talk to her. Don't give the stubs back in case you might want to have a visit with the local prosecuting attorney. You should be able to call for free legal help ( check your phone book).Health Question & Answer

You are getting ripped off BIG TIME. First: "Under the table" means cash with no taxes taken out. And yes, that is 100% illegal because Uncle Sam wants his take.

Second: Medicare and Social security are being taken but I have no clue what "Fit" is. Anyway, if you are being paid under the table, nothing should be taken out.

Third: If she says that she needs the info because you are "contract" beware. You are not a contract employee unless you are in business for yourself and set your own hours with your own materials. As a contract employee you are responsible for your own social security payments and Uncle Sam will come after you and only you if she sends them a 1099 form for her own tax reduction purposes. But she would need your SS number to do that.

Fourth: Where are your parents and why don't you get them to tell you what's going on.? also, the labor board and IRS might be real interested in what is going on at that restaurant.Health Question & Answer

Under the table means no taxes! fit is the federal income tax. Med is medicare withholding. Tell her that you want to make sure that sense she is taking out taxes you want a w2 at the end of the year! Say that because sense you're 16 you legally can claim student and get everything that was taken out in taxes back. Don't feel intimidated by her, let her no that just because you're 16 it doesn't make you an idiot!Health Question & Answer
