Question about getting a custom shade for my crowns?!

Question: Question about getting a custom shade for my crowns.?
I have to go get a custom shade for my crowns that im getting. My teeth are around a A3 i think thats what i heard my dentist say. Would it be a good idea/out of the ordinary to ask the custom shade place to order a shade or two lighter then my other teeth in order to leave some room for my teeth to whiten more.? Would it look weird.? I just dont want to be stuck with my teeth kinda colered for the rest of my life. I would get my other teeth whitend before i went to the custom shade place but after reading reviews it seems like whitening does't really work that well, or does it.? Thanks.Health Question & Answer

It is not out of the ordinary...you should have a say in the color of your crown. If you are bleaching your teeth, bleach and then pick the color for the crown, don't guess which color and hope the others match. I think bleaching works well. I used to do Zoom on a lot of patients before they would get the crowns (you have to wait a few days for the color) but it worked wonderfully. Crest white strips work well too, if you keep up with them. Where is your tooth that needs the crown.? If it is a front tooth, or a tooth you see when you smile, definitely bleach before you pick the color. also, they can customize it more. For example, most people's teeth are darker toward the gum line. You can get an A3 for that area and a B2, for the body of the tooth, and maybe a B1 for the incisal edge (because that's normally a little lighter on natural teeth). The shades don't go in a logical order, the B category is usually more white, while A has a yellow tint, and D has a grey tint. You can get your crown done, and be bleaching while you have the temporary on. While the crown is at the lab, you can go back to the office and get a color and they can call it in to the lab. also, just so you are aware, I'm sure you are though...crowns will not bleach, your other teeth will, but the crown won't. However, over time, a crown will stain slightly - go figure. Health Question & Answer

Whiten first, then wait 6 weeks before taking a custom shade. Dentist-supplied tooth home whitening does work for most people, but you can't estimate in advance - everyone reacts differently.
If you're not going to whiten, then stick with the correct matching colour. As we age, our natural teeth will darken, and if you choose a lighter colour for your crown, it will become MORE obvious as you age.
A3 is a very typical colour. Teeth are naturally yellow.Health Question & Answer

HELLO,
my starting shade before whitening was VITA C3-4 and after custom tray whitening it was A1.
Before any permanent shade is ever chosen you owe it to yourself to get the teeth as white as they can be. If not, then there will always be a shade discrepancy for which bleaching of the crowns will NEVER change their shade and your stuck with mismatched shades.Health Question & Answer
