Local or General Anesthesia for this procedure?!

Question: Local or General Anesthesia for this procedure.?
I am having a tooth extracted, bone grafting done and a dental implant put in. The dentist won't know until he cuts me open whether he is able to do all of this at once or whether it will have to just be the extraction and bone graft for now. I don't do very well at the dentist and have only had cleanings - no fillings, etc. What kind of anesthesia should I be requesting.?Health Question & Answer

i have actually assisted in this very procedure....the periodontist came in our office to place bone graft after we removed teeth and did an alveoectomy (removal of bone) and alveotomy (shaping and smoothing). Implants were not placed UNTIL after bone graft was a success and completely healed. The patient was under local anesthesia and N20 (nitrous) the whole time (wide awake). Hope this helps. also, marcaine, (and I am sure there are other forms) an anesthetic was injected to keep the area numb longer.Health Question & Answer

Well, the dentist will most likely recommend general anesthesia, especially if you're nervous. It much more expensive, but very worth it. Health Question & Answer

Your procedure could easily be done under local anesthesia. Do not expose yourself to general anesthesia unless extremely necesary.Health Question & Answer
