Question: What would be causing the gum part of my dentures to darken and turn slightly purple.? .?
I have had them for about a year and a half and I have tried everything to get it off. it just started about a month ago. what can I do to remove the discoloration.? what would cause it so I can avoid the discoloration in the future.? Health Question & Answer


Answers:
If the dentures have been relined, it is possible that the liner is separating from the denture base and moisture and food particles are getting in there. I suggest going back to the dentist who made them and have them checked out. The staining or whatever it is may not come off with brushing or soaking.Health Question & Answer

If these are detachable dentures,rub them with a sand paper and the set will be as good as new.It is difficult to prevent discoloration.You may rinse your mouth with diluted hydrogen paroxide solution or clean your teeth and artificial gum part with baking soda once in 7-10 days besides regular brushing with toothpaste.It will also help make your real teeth white.Health Question & Answer
