I had a cavity repaired on my back tooth two weeks ago, but it's still painful. Is this normal?!

Question: I had a cavity repaired on my back tooth two weeks ago, but it's still painful. Is this normal.?
My dentist said the tooth is "not dead yet" but that it was dangerously close to infection or an absess before he repaired the cavity and put a filling in it, but other than now being able to bite down without any pain, it is still painful every few hours and I am still taking medication up to three times a day.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
the filling may be too high and need to be eased, this is simple. It may be sensitive and the nerve could be irritated by having a filling done so close to the nerve, this might be reversible but sometimes not. Go back to your dentist, if it is the nerve thats irritated your dentist may give you antibiotics to help settle it or worst case scenario you may need and extraction or root canal. If its been longer than 10 days since the filling you really need to go back to your dentistHealth Question & Answer

it may still be infected, keep taking the medication and it should be ok. i had a filling where the dentist had packed it to tightly and i kept getting infections because of the pressure it created. i had the tooth extracted eventually.Health Question & Answer

it may take upto 6 weeks for the tooth to become asymptomatic.. so that the tooth can repair itself.. however if it persists more than 2 months visit ur dentist..Health Question & Answer
