PLEASE HELP?! My Previous Dentist Screwed Me Over!!?!

Question: PLEASE HELP.?! My Previous Dentist Screwed Me Over!!.?
My previous dentist was older and he recently died so I had to get a new dentist. Everytime I went for a cleaning at my old dentist he would tell me I have a few dark spots on top of my fillings that werent cavities but just "something to keep an eye on" Well I went for my first appointment to my new dentist today and she said I have 8 CAVITIES that HAVE to be drilled and some are underneath fillings. WHAT THE HELL.?.? And on top of that I have a SEVERE Phobia of getting drilled. I literally get short of breath and get tears in my eyes thinking that I have to get drilled 8 times. This is because when Ive gotten drilled before, they never numbed me enough and always hit a nerve. So now I'm terrified of it. And my new dentist said that my old dentist had done that with several other patients too, telling them it was only something to keep an eye on when it was really a cavity. How could he do that.?.?.? I'm thinking of going to a different dentist that sedates people with laughng gas when doing fillings, has anyone had that done and is it affective.?.? I just dont know what to do, I'm so pissed from getting scewed over by that dentist and I'm scared to death to get all those fillings.Health Question & Answer

im like you afraid of the dentist so i did go to a place that had gas it was very effective i didn't even know what he was doing and i had 2 wisdom teeth pulled and one had to be cut out and then the root stayed in so he had to do surgery on it to remove it in 3 pieces and still didn't feel anything i would highly recommend spending the extra 35.00 for the gas that's all it cost me extra i hope this helps you out

In a case such as this, it is a good idea to get another opinion. So, check out the doc with the laughing gas. And, yes, the relaxing gas is great but it's not free!Health Question & Answer

I had a horrid dentist when I was growing up NO pain shot NO nothing just freakin drilled, he also overfilled my teeth and they are now cracked and I had to get crowns. I found a new dentist this year as I had avoided the dentist for 10 years! I found one that "caters" to cowards. I take a Xanax before I go, they give me, Novocaine and Nitrous Oxide and laughing gas. I didn't feel a thing during it all. My dentist told me to raise my hand if I felt pain and they would give me more. Please find somebody and get it fixed, modern dentists are great.Health Question & Answer

The main thing to remember here is that your previous dentist did NOT do a good job. So what you need to do is find a good dentist. Ask around at work and ask friends and family who they go to, and ask them to be specific about why they like their dentist. Or maybe your new dentist is someone you feel comfortable with.

Once you are with a dentist you can trust, realize that technology has come a long way, and your old dentist quite likely did not keep up with the times.

When restoring a tooth (filling a cavity), most dentists will apply topical anesthetic, which will numb the area just a little so you don't feel pain when he/she injects local anesthetic, which completely blocks the nerve that enables the tooth to feel anything. You will still feel some pressure, just because of the slight pushing and moving around of the handpiece (it's actually not called a drill, it is a high- or low-speed handpiece).

You won't get all of your fillings done at once, so it won't be too bad. The dentist will probably do one or two at a time, that way you won't be in the chair for so long. And of course, there are a ton of dentists who offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) if that is the way you want to go. But remember you are not going to the same dentist; you are going to someone you can trust to know what they are doing.

You'll be okay. :)

First of all, if you're teeth are in THAT kind of shape you have to share some of the blame. Do you brush your teeth at all.? Though it sounds like your old dentist was a clown...

Anyway you can go to a hospital to get fully sedated for that stuff.
Or if you do that at the dentist they'll give you laughing gas until you're calm.Health Question & Answer
