Is it safe to smoke 3 days after having all my upper teeth pulled and immediate dentures put in?!

Question: Is it safe to smoke 3 days after having all my upper teeth pulled and immediate dentures put in.?
I had 11 teeth pulled on the top and an immediate denture put in. I'm wondering if the denture protects my gums from a dry socket or if anyone has gone through this before. I'm really scared to take the denture out because my gums hurt when they dentures move, ie. if I eat or try to chew on anything. I was told by my dentist not to smoke for 24-48 hours but after doing some research on the internet its states 7 days is best. I'm just really scared of getting a dry socket and but at this point and stress level, I'm almost willing to take my chances. Even my kids who are set that I should quit are telling me to just go smoke a cigarette. My emotions are running high so please no condescending ***holes, please. I already know I need to quit and when I'm ready and only then, I will. Thanks in advance for your help.Health Question & Answer

It is probably best not to smoke or drink through a straw. I would think another day or so and you should be safe. Have you been back to the dentist to have him take the denture out yet.? He could probably tell you how you are healing. If he has cleared you to remove the denture after a day or two the I would do it and rinse gently with a solution of warm salt water. Gently swish it around in your mouth and don't spit it out but let it dribble out so that you do not disturb any clots that have formed.

Right now you need to get over one trauma at a time and getting dentures is a big one.

If there is anything I can do to help you please feel free to contact me.

I think you will be okay to smoke. If you are to scared try the patch to at least get some nicotine in your system to cut down on the antsy crabbies. If you have gone 3 days, that is a real start for quitting. I just quit 43 days ago and could not have done it without the patch. Health Question & Answer

Honey, really, really... NO!!

Please wait! You haven't had just one tooth out, you've had lots. If it still hurts to move your dentures, please give your mouth more time to heal. PLEASE!!!

I'm sure you know you don;t want dry socket. I can't imagine what would happen if you got dry socket all over your mouth. I can't. I just can't think of it!!

I know your emotions are running high, but please try to hold out. You will regret it SO MUCH if you get infected. It's not the kind of thing you want to take you chances on unless you take chances like sticking your arm in an alligator's mouth, you know what I mean.?.?Health Question & Answer
