I was wondering if a dentist can take off your braces?!

Question: I was wondering if a dentist can take off your braces.?
i hate my orthodontist. i fell like he just wants my money and doesnt care about me. every time i go there, i wait a ridiculously long time just to go in the back and wait longer. then he comes in looks at my teeth for like 30 seconds and walks out then his assistant changes my rubber bands then i leave. he said i would only need my braces for a year and a half and i've had my braces for over 3 years and i want them off! so can i just pay a dentist to remove my braces or another orthodontist to remove them.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
no dentist cant, if you dont like your ortho i would suggest try switiching but that could end up costing more money and time. Sometimes they say it will be a year than your teeth arent shifiting like they should be! Keep them on until they say trust me i started in 3rd grade and got my off 8th grade year well started with a retainer and what not but my teeth are great now, orthos are like docs, takes forever and they are there for 5 min and gone, get used to it docs are kinda worse actually, have your mom talk to the receptionist than about wait times and whats really going on, your paying for everything so its your right to talk to them about service, and the plan with the braces

I'm afraid only your orthodontist can remove your braces. I'm pretty sure your contract says you won't have any other work on your teeth unless it's from your orthodontist. If you really don't like the service, you have every right to complain. You are, after all, paying for the braces, but also the service.

I have to say, though, that's all the orthodontist really does. They just quickly check and let the assistant do the work.

The time will go by quickly. Three years will be over with soon, and the end result will be very well worth it :) Good luck!

The Bad news: Even after their off it's retainers for life. Braces are sort of time wasters unless you have horrid teeth.

The other bad news: No, I am pretty sure only an Orthodontist can do it. He probably does want your money but if your braces are still on you might still need them. He was probably just wrong about the 1.5 years thing.

The good news: . . . Oops. Sorry but it's kind of a sticky situation :(Health Question & Answer

hahaha that exactly what my dentist does, i even skipped many of my appointment and came in late just to piss them off. but eventually they said ok your all done and gave me a retainer, but i threw it away cuhz my teeth is straight. you basically already paid for them to put it on and remove it. i dont think another orthodontist will remove your braces especially if they didnt put it on.Health Question & Answer

a dentist most definetly cannot remove them. i wouldn't think another orthodontest would unless you took your whole file and transfered your business to him. it is typical to have braces on a lot longer than your ortho origionally told you, so don't start to think you're the only one. good luck!Health Question & Answer

I think you're better off going to another orthodontist. They have special tools to take them off and can give you a second opinion about how long you really need them. Maybe they can even tell you about other options.Health Question & Answer

Not a dentist, they are not qualified. You could try going to another orthodontist.Health Question & Answer

Since I have no braces, even a dentist cannot take them off.Health Question & Answer

no because when ortho's. go to school they become dental asst. then dentists then orthodontistsHealth Question & Answer

when i had braces i had to go through all that, you are missing what your ortho is actually doing back in his/her little cubby. reviewing your charts trying to see what what steps he/she needs to do next all that stuff. and when you get to the end after your teeth are already straight, they like to keep them on for a while long to make sure your teeth are set,buy that i mean so the bone has time to reform around your teeth. the assistants always changed my bands, but the ortho always did the wire and adjustments. and i highly recommend wearing your retainer for the first few weeks after you get your braces off, they serve a propose too. after a few weeks just wear them while your sleeping, i wish i did, because my teeth are not as straight as they use to be because i don't wear them at night that much. so do what he says and you will have pearly whites. oh, and if you are seriously dissatisfied with him you can get another ortho but it will cost ya.Health Question & Answer
