Dentist say's that tooth extraction has 50/50 risk of nerve damage?!

Question: Dentist say's that tooth extraction has 50/50 risk of nerve damage.?
I am really in a dilemma and I need some advice. About a year ago, I went to our local dental school at Case Western Reserve University and was told that I needed my bottom wisdom teeth removed, however due to "crossed nerves" the procedure would come with some risk including loss of sensation in my the area where my tooth was extracted. The risk is 50/50...pretty high! What alternative are there for people in my situation.? On top of that, I recently found out that I have cavities in the wisdom teeth. Should I keep them because the risk is so high, can a dentist fill wisdom teeth. The one tooth is completely erupted however the other one is partially through the gum.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Go to an oral surgeon who specializes in difficult wisdom teeth removal. You're probably going to need an MRI which will visualize the nerves better than an x-ray, and increase the chances of removing the tooth without nerve damage. If the decision is not to remove the tooth, yes, a wisdom tooth can be treated much the same as any other with fillings or a root canal. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Wisdom teeth can be filled and if they are causing no problems I would not extract. If the tooth in question has to be removed, have an Oral Surgeon to section the tooth and the percentage of little or no nerve damage will be more favorable.Health Question & Answer

This is true but I do not know another way. I would go to an oral surgeon though. That is there field. What i have seen happen though is the area around the tooth feels numb. Although I do have one friend that she was lift with a dropping corner on her mouth. Health Question & Answer

Go find a different dentist, or even an oral surgeon.
I would not trust that dentist. That just sounds too risky and I think you should get a second, even 3rd opinion,Health Question & Answer
