Dental issues are very common during pregnancy do to the increase in hormones. This causes your gums to become extra sensitive and susceptible to bacterial infections. The best thing to do is rinse your mouth out frequently with plain warm water especially after eating. Avoid spicy, hot, foods and drinks. Try eating soft foods and definitely avoid any citrus foods and drinks. Use commercial mouthwashes on occasion to reduce the bacteria in your mouth, but don't over do it because they contain a lot of alcohol which can irritate your gums further. Make sure you see your dentist regularly and let him/her know your pregnant, so they can help you develop a good dental plan.Health Question & Answer

When your pregnant the baby draws alot from your body as you already know. At your stage and with your type of saliva, they are more apt to come. maybe try to use a stronger mouth wash, just to help cut down on some germs entering your mouth and to help them heal faster. Call any Dentist and ask the Question, someone out there is bound to have had a baby and had the same problem or knows how to answer your problem. Good Luck with your baby and your problem. I personally think you just don't have enough acid in your saliva while your pregnant to fight off the cankerous sores. By the way we all have acidic saliva, some just have more than others do.Health Question & Answer

Warm, salt water rinses. Use a very mild, bland toothpaste like Crest Sensitivity or Sensodyne. Avoid cinnamon, strong mint, citrus or anything very abrasive. Be careful when you are brushing that you don't cause any trauma with your toothbrush.Health Question & Answer
