Question: I just had a wisdom tooth pulled, how long should i keep the gauze on it/.?
Answers:
Ideally until the bleeding stops...which doesn't help much.

I'd say at least an hour...just be careful when you remove the gauze that you don't dislodge the clot or the bleeding will start again.

You will probably find that when the anesthetic wears off the bleeding may start again as the shot contains adrenaline to constrict the blood vessels. As the adrenaline wears off the blood vessels dilate and blood flows.

Try to avoid doing anything that raises your blood pressure like rushing around or anything that makes u puff. also avoid things that cause pressure in your mouth such as sucking, blowing or spitting. Where possible keep your head above your heart to avoid gravity getting too involved...so no bending over is possible.

Yes it's normal to have a big hole...you had a big tooth in that hole until not that long ago. I know how hard it is but try to avoid poking in the hole with your tongue too much as this can dislodge the clot and start the bleeding all over again.

If the bleeding continues profusely consider a trip to the ER or Casualty to have your gum packed and sutured.Health Question & Answer

Once a tooth is pulled you should leave the gauze on for at least an hour with firm but gentle pressure. Do not remove the gauze even if it is soaked (bloddy) bc every time you change the gauze your risk removing the clot, so its better to leave one gauze in there and leave it alone for an hour. You can throw it out an hour later if you like or replace it with a new one if there is still some bleeding. Health Question & Answer

hey me too! i got all 4 done. and i'm wondering hte same thing. its been 2 hours and i'm so sick of the gauze i've jsut taken it out. i know for the first hour you must keep on, but aftre that i guess if it seems to be bleeding profusely still i would keep it on, if it seems to be bleeding just mildly then you cant atke it off. some bleeding is to be expected throughout the day.
