Can you use a straw when you have dry socket?!
Question: Can you use a straw when you have dry socket.?
I had my wisdoms out and resulted in 1 dry socket. On Monday I had a dressing put it in (which by the way are absolutely disgusting), and on Wednesday it was replaced. He said that Friday night I can take the dressing out myself and everything should be fine. Can I use a straw in this timeframe.? I eat out a lot sooo I'm wondering if its going to have negative effects!

I know exactly what you are going through. I am suprised they said to take the dressing out your self. Anyway DO NOT use a straw!Health Question & Answer
I would not for at least a week to ensure a good blood clot. The sucking motion could dislodge the clot they worked so hard to get by putting that dressing there. It will pass before you know it. Health Question & Answer
No, you aren't allowed to suck (even though you probably already do HA) sorry, couldn't resist.Health Question & Answer
No. Sucking can make more dry socket, then there is a problem healing, doesn't have that seal so debris can get in and cause infection.Health Question & Answer
Definitely not. No straws, no sucking, no smokingHealth Question & Answer
