Getting a molar extracted?!

Question: Getting a molar extracted.?
I need a molar extracted, there is a large cavity in it. It has gone beyond the mere need of a drill and fill, My options are root canal and extraction. I went and got an exam and x-ray, but they quoted me 180 to get it pulled, and that seems a little too expensive for them to yank out my tooth. so i was thinking about going to a dental college to get a reduced price. But i was wondering, can i get them to pull the tooth without having another exam or x-ray procedure.? Cause I dont want to have pay fro another one when i already know whats up with my tooth....

Yes, you need to get your x-ray from your dentist and take it with you. Root canals usually cost about $700.00 and up. Ask them if it would be ok for you to bring X-Ray that was just taken by other dentist and then call your dentist to make sure he will let you have it. He should give it to you but he might charge you a small fee for it. Health Question & Answer

In a dental college they will use you for teaching and practice purpose but anyway the cost will be a lot less. The student will not be as experienced as a licenced dentist but will be under the supervision of a professor. So you do not have to worry. In my area it is less than half of what you were quoted/Health Question & Answer

I can't imagine a dentist doing an extraction without doing an exam. Perhaps another x-ray may not be necessary as you can bring them with you.

It would be like being referred to a surgeon and expecting him to cut on you without doing an exam.Health Question & Answer
