This sounds like gingivitis.Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums. This is when the gums around the teeth become very red and swollen. Often the swollen gums bleed when they are brushed during cleaning. due to you not cleaning your teeth properly. Do they bleed also when you brush.?
You must clean them thoroughly twice a day and use floss or inter dental brushes. All gum disease is caused by plaque. Plaque is a film of bacteria which forms on the surface of the teeth and gums every day. Many of the bacteria in plaque are completely harmless, but there are some that have been shown to be the main cause of gum disease. To prevent and treat gum disease, you need to make sure you remove all the plaque from your teeth every day. This is done by brushing and flossing.
If you do this properly and try using a mouthwash such as Corsodyl also then you will find this problem subsides within 14 days..although it will return and cause permanent damage and bone loss if you continue to neglect your mouth...remember teeth are for life...not just for Christmas!!

wow, you must have really swollen gums!! so i take that they are covering part of your teeth too.?.?

There are many reasons which lead to swollen gums, one of them being inadequate oral hygiene. so i'd suggest you to brush/floss better and get chlorhexidine mouthwash or something like that. It's antibacterial.

there could be other reasons behind your really swollen gums as well. could be medication. are you on any sort of medication.? or any systemic diseases.?

are the gums painful.? swollen red.? or has it got the white tinge to it.?Health Question & Answer
