If the tooth has changed color, you'll probably need a root canal and internal bleaching to get the discoloration out. Since you're only 18, the dentist might do the root canal with bleaching and just do a white resin filling to buy some time. It's usually not a good idea to do a crown on someone your age because your facial bones can still grow til you're in your early 20's. If you have a crown on, the tooth could erupt further in the mouth exposing the margin of the crown. It would look bad and then you'd need to have it redone. Your dentist will go over all your options with you.Health Question & Answer

When I was young I think I fell off a swing and chipped my tooth. I think it was a really big chip too. I was taken to the dentist and I think they replaced part of the tooth that broke and I think I was told that when my teeth finish growing, or something like that, they'd put a crown or something on it. I don't think I have gotten the crown on yet though. I don't think my tooth is black though. And hopefully it won't be. You should probably go to the dentist quick though, so that your situation won't possibly get worse.Health Question & Answer

It's turning black because the tooth is dead. The best option would be a veneer. Lumineers (the covers) are really thin (thin as a contact lens) and if your tooth is already darkening, it may still show through. A composite (tooth colored) filling is not the best option because there are not many surfaces for it to adhere to so they don't last long and you'll have to keep getting it redone.

P.S. Having a "dead tooth" does not mean it needs pulledHealth Question & Answer

Yes you should go to a dentist. The tooth has turned black because the nerve has most probably died off. A small x-ray would confirm this, is this is the case then the tooth needs to be root-treated with the dead nerve removed and root canal treatment carried out BEFORE any cosmetic work is carried out be it a veneer or a cap (artificial crown placed.Health Question & Answer

if the chip is big soak the tooth chip in milk and go see the dentist to see what he can do to make the tooth look normal. i don't know if you'll need the tooth chip or not but just to be safe soak it.Health Question & Answer

go to the dentist and make sure they give you porcelain cover just on the part of the tooth that you need it cuz if its a little part there is no need to do the whole tooth
good luck and i hope i was of helpHealth Question & Answer

If it's black, the tooth and the root is dead and needs to be pulled. It will be replaced with a dental bridge, which is a fake tooth. It will not be placed in your gum.Health Question & Answer
