Braces help, pleeeease?!

Question: Braces help, pleeeease.?
Okay, so I got braces put on my teeth June 16th of this year, to close the gap between my front two teeth.
My orthodontist told me that they'd probably be on for about two years, but the thing is, theres like, no space at all between my two front teeth right now...Why do I need the braces on for so long.?

And no, nothing else is wrong with my teeth..

Because if they undo it now they will go back to splitting apart in weeks.Health Question & Answer

i think that it is because they need to make sure that it STAYS that way and that it doesn't move back, i really don't know what your teeth look like but i realized that MY teeth are a lot more crooked then i had previously though after i got braces, last monday, and that more then just the 1 tooth needed to be fixed then what i had thoguht.

orthodontists may take your braces off before they are planned to come off but most of the time they know what they are doing so trust them

Well my brother was supposed to have his on for 2 years also, but got his off after a year and about one month. Usually it's all up to your orthodontist to decide if you're ready to take them off. If you take them off too soon, your teeth will move right back to where they were before. That's where the retainer comes in. After you get your braces off, you'll probably have to get a retainer to wear at night just to ensure your teeth stay in place! Hope this helps;)Health Question & Answer

well, to fix one thing, they have to rearrange the whole set of teeth.

trust me I have braces, my brother had braces, and my friends have braces. one of my friends thought that she had perfect teeth, they were really straight, and once she got them off, she was amazed to see how much straighter they were. compared to what she has now, they were crooked! it may appear that they are straight, but they can get WAY STRAIGHTER. trust me. i got mine in april of 07 and i still have them. the orthodontist may seem crazy, but his methods work. :DHealth Question & Answer

Well, you need to keep it on so long because, if you take them off as soon as your teeth are fixed, there is a higher chance of your teeth moving back. By keeping the braces on longer, the teeth will root on in different posistions to stay straight. If you have any concerns about it, talk to your orthodontist.Health Question & Answer

well you may only think the only problem in your mouth is the space. don't forget the other teeth in your mouth. the doctor is concerned with the space which is what ever one see's but more importantly he's concerned with the way your teeth come together. need to be able to chew.
as far as the length of time of your treatment, 2 years is an estimate only could take longer or shorter. depending on how many things get broken, if you make all your appt. and if you wear the elastics as instructed. it will be all worth the time. and it goes by fast.Health Question & Answer

Because once the teeth have moved into place, you need the braces on for the remainder of the time so they don't slip out of place again and seperate.

The braces still being on, trains your teeth and puts them there permanently. And then you might have to wear a retainer after your braces.. That is also important in making sure your teeth stay put.Health Question & Answer

Well, depending on your age, your teeth are constantly shifting, if they took the braces off now, the gap would come right back. Keeping the braces on helps lock your teeth in place so that they won't shift as much. Don't worry, I know braces suck sometimes, but it's worth it afterwards!

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

I had to keep them in for 3.5 years after 4 years of retainers.

At night when I sleep, I have to wear a mouth guard like retainer, to prevent me from losing my bite.

You probably have to wear your braces for so long to prevent your teeth from going back to their old positions.

Well I have braces too, but I think that probably the gap isn't the only problem, sometimes you need them for some other problem that you might have. But next time you have your appointment just ask your orthododontist.Health Question & Answer

Im sure there is something, somthing that you don't notice but they do. I have the same problem sort of. Ive had mine for 1 year and my teeth look great, but apparently i have an overbite. They wouldnt keep them on for no reason rather than taking your money.Health Question & Answer

braces correct a lot of things- your bite is probably not perfect which is why they are staying on so long (an overbite or an underbite) and the longer your braces stay on the easier it is for your teeth to stay that way after you get them off Health Question & Answer

That does seem long. I had a tiny gap which was fixed with spring loaded retainers. I just wore them for a few months then only at night. I had them tightened a few times and was done. It was simple.

I'd get a second opinion. Have you signed a contract.?Health Question & Answer

haha, that's also what's going on with my teeth...I have to have them on for 2 years! Well, I'm guessing that it's for pulling your top teeth and ur bottom teeth closer to each other. I gotta ask my orthodontist on my next appointment.
:)Health Question & Answer

they tell you it's only a short time, but really they leave them on until your teeth stop growing. it could be 5 years including the horrible retainers they make you wear. it does work pretty well, though, so... idkHealth Question & Answer

I have braces and i ask my orthadontist and he said that if you take them off as soon as they get straight ur teeth will grow back a part and if you have an over bite it takes longerHealth Question & Answer

uhm sometimes they put them on
forsome other reasons.

They stay on for so long because if you don't leave them on long enough your teeth will start yo form the gap again.Health Question & Answer

well, if they take the braces off, your gap will cpme back and maybe you need it for your bite or gap :)Health Question & Answer

I sometimes think that orthodontists are rackets. They charge so much for simple things like that.Health Question & Answer
