Chronic bad breath can signal and underlying illness. If you are sure of your dental hygiene, then consider the following illnesses to be the cause of bad breath:

* Pneumonia
* Chronic Sinus Infections
* Postnasal Drip
* Bronchitis
* Diabetes
* Severe Acid Reflux
* Kidney Disease
* Liver Disease

Upper respiratory conditions are actually a common source of bad breath when caused by internal factors. In the majority of cases, the Halimeter will either point to bacteria living on the back of the tongue or along the gum line as the source of bad breath. However, when the Halimeter does not find any significant emissions coming from the oral cavity, then the most probable source of chronic bad breath is disease coming from within and the dentist will recommend consulting with a medical doctor for further assistance. Have you had a dental exam within the past 3 years.? It's quite possible you could have gingivitis or periodontal disease. That will cause bad breath, but it is very treatable. Maybe you simply need a professional teeth cleaning or deep scaling. The dentist can help find the cause and eliminate the breath odor.

If you've already seen the dentist, then make an appointment with your doctor and explain your concerns to him/her. It could be from a sinus problem or stomach problem or a number of other health issues.

Since it's been 3 years, I'm leaning more toward the problem being dental. Even if you brush your teeth and do good home dental hygiene, you can still get gum infections. You will feel so much better and your self-confidence will increase dramatically when you get the issue taken care of, so it's well worth it. Good luck and take care.
