Tooth ache after partial root canal...?!

Question: Tooth ache after partial root canal....?
Okay. I'm 9 months pregnant so I can't take anything but Tylenol. I had a partial root canal about a week ago. They put a temporary filling in my tooth along with some medicine. Anyways, a few days after they did that my tooth started hurting SOOO bad. I couldnt sleep and it was just making me cry. I went back and they said it was because my tooth had filled up with "dead air". Basically it filled up with pressure. Once they opened the tooth again, it stopped hurting right away. They filled it again and said come back in a week for the permanent filling. It's been a few days and AGAIN it's hurting SO bad. WHAT CAN I DO!.? It's 3 in the AM and I havent slept at all. The ONLY reliefe I can get is from biting down. The pressure seems to stop the pain. But only for like 2 seconds and then it's back. I've rinsed with warm salt water and that's not helping. The Dentist is closed for the Holidays until MONDAY!! That's 5 days away... help...Health Question & Answer

Hi i'm a dentist (probably you don't like me so much right now:))
i guess what you had is not a partial root canal but the 1st. step of the root canal treatment which is to open the tooth take the nerve out and try to control the infection (by using several antiseptic rinses). evidently the infection is infection is still there- in the root canal (where there are no blood vessels anymore to supply natural white blood cells defense against the infection). the pain that you feel is probably due to gases produced by Bactria's metabolism. this metabolism (and gas production) is speeded up by warm and slowed by cold so you can try rinsing with cold water as an immediate relief but the only real treatment is to go to any dentist to reopen this tooth and again disinfect with sodium hypo chloride rinses (the more the better).
i hope this helped, all the best!!Health Question & Answer

Did you get a dry socket as they call it. I feel pitty for you . Go to the emergency room. They should inform you what you can and not take for the painHealth Question & Answer

Hi Kacey,

The dentist will have an emergency process through his answering service. And if you can't reach that one, check for another endodontist who will see you. Holiday or not, they won't let you suffer but you have to let them know that this has happened again.

I've never heard of doing a partial root canal - it makes no sense to leave any of the nerves in a tooth that's going to have to have a crown.

The only thing I can think of that might help is if you rinse a washcloth and then bite on that. It'll allow you to keep the pressure on without clenching your jaw so much.

I'm so sorry!Health Question & Answer
