Is this Normal? [a question concerning wisdom teeth]?!

Question: Is this Normal.? [a question concerning wisdom teeth].?
I got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled five days ago and i'm still in extreme pain. None of my prescriptions seem to be working [they have me on hydrocodone and heavy duty ibprofen] and the swelling isn't going down. I followed all post op procedures to the letter, and im still rinsing five times a day with salt water. The pain is centered mostly around my two lower wounds, but it seems to spread throughout my whole lower jaw line. My cheeks still have the whole "chipmunk" look to them, and the pain is keeping me up and keeping me from eating much. Im running extremely low on sleep and patience and i don't really know what to do, i have a follow up appointment on this upcoming Monday, but the pain is getting really bad and I need to get some sleep and focus because i have some major tests coming up in school. Any help.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Pain for any type of dental surgery should peak at around 3-4 days, then start to taper off and should be easily managed with your pain releif that you had been prescribed.

Depending on if they were quite difficult to extract, that could be playing a factor to the prolonged pain and swelling but I am thinking that you may possibly have a dry socket.

A dry socket is when the clot, that forms in the hole and begins the healing process, is washed out and leaves the socket exposed causing quite alot of discomfort, bad taste and smell. If it is, this can be easily managed by your dentist placing a special dressing into the socket.

You need to see your dentist before Monday or at least talk to him and explain what you are experiencing just incase it is an infection.
If the pain is absolutley excrusiating and I couldn't see a dentist before Monday, I would go to the emergency room at the hospital because someone there would be able to help.

Good luck :)Health Question & Answer

this is quite normal as far as i know. the lower ones always take longer to heal than the upper ones and u will find that food gets stuck in them that u have to dig out for ages a cocktail stick is useful.! if u are still in such severe pain then it may be worth checking with whoever took them out if u have any infection or if they need packing . i had to have my lower cavities packed for 3 wks after having my teeth out. i thought that wisdom teeth/tooth is just only one and no more. only one, i know.

well then, as far as i know, you shouldn't pull it early you just let it be pulled by itself..it will really make yourself in a great pain if you pulled it immediatelyHealth Question & Answer

Took over two weeks for my sisters swelling to go down. She looked so funny, i burst out laughing (in shock). Takes longer for some. Of course, your dental surgeon could have done a bodgy job too.Health Question & Answer

Yike! It sounds like you have a secondary infection. Go back to the dentist and get a prescription for another course of antibiotics. ASAP!
