In the meantime (before you have a chance to see a dentist), do a self examination of your mouth. Check for anything that looks like a tiny hole or a dark brown spot. (You could have a cavity between your teeth which is a main reason for going to the dentist for simple cavity detecting x-rays) However, if you find a little brown spot, take a little dentist's pick (a metal tool with a tiny, thin hook/point at the end...you can buy one for a few dollars) and push down on the brown spot. If the spot is hard (like when you push down on the white part of any tooth) then chances are it isn't a cavity. If you push down on the spot and it is soft or causes pain, etc. then chances are that it is a cavity.

Regardless, see a dentist, they are the only ones with the equipment and knowledge to determine whether or not you have a cavity.Health Question & Answer
