How to lessen a gummy smile.?!

Question: How to lessen a gummy smile..?
I've always had a really gummy smile, as in my upper gums are really visible. I got my braces off a while ago and my teeth are straight, but i am self consious when i smile and feel that i have to minimize it or not smile at all. =/ I was wondering if there was any way this problem could be solved or lessened without surgery. I want to feel free and good, but i cant right now. I just decided to try to stretch my upper lip tonight and keep at it...maybe it will work. Please help me. Health Question & Answer

I'm sorry but there is nothing that can be done to reduce the visible gum tissue above the anterior teeth. You may have had a frenectomy done when you were younger to close the space between the front teeth before you had braces. This is a common procedure that cuts the muscle attachment; this attachment holds the lip to the gum tissue but also creates a dental problem when the attachment is too tight causing a gap to develop between the two anterior teeth. Once cut, it can't be reattached. Your best bet would be to practice smiling in the mirror, just as others here have suggested.Health Question & Answer

cosmatic gum surgery is the only solution or you can discuss with your dentist if he can increase the length of the crowns. for more information on gummy smile you can visit the following link

This may be a totally non-helpful answer because some people just have gummier smiles than others...but how healthy are your gums.? Inflammed tissue is swollen and red, causing more attention to it. And a lot of people don't notice gingivitis because it doesn't hurt. Anyhow. I'd recommend flossing daily if you don't already.
I always hate when someone snaps a picture when I'm laughing because my upper lip pulls up to high on the sides. I honestly wish the frenum attachments over my premolars was lower/tighter so my lip wouldn't raise as high. BUT if I do a reg smile it's much better so maybe practice is your best bet. =) Good luck!Health Question & Answer

this may sound very silly but practise smiling in the mirror. Try different things, maybe stretching your mouth wider, or letting your chin drop a bit, where to put your tongue etc, and see what you think looks best. Then practise that particular smile. It may feel a bit fake at first but after a while you will smile like that naturally - you just have to teach yourself this habit.
Good luck :-)Health Question & Answer

You can have cosmetic periodontal (gum) surgery. A skilled periodontist can easily remove tissue around your teeth . This will make them longer.Health Question & Answer

Your dentist can probably recommend a procedure to improve the cosmetics of your smile.Health Question & Answer
