What do you expect from the profession as a dentist?!
Question: What do you expect from the profession as a dentist.?
Answers:
as a dentist, I expect my colleagues to be up to date on the newest technologies. I want state of the art dentistry to be presented.
I expect that I need to take continuing education as part of my license for the life of my license.
i also expected long hours and weekends initially tapering off to better hours as I got established.
I expected a stable business that would avoid the pitfalls of economy but after practicing for 8 years, I know this not to be true. Most of my dental colleagues have seen a sharp decline in income since we've been in a recession.
Definitely I expected dentistry to be equitable and it is. But you get what you put in. If you want to make 6 or more figures, you have to work hard at it.
What I did not expect from dentistry was that you could spend more money on your career education than on your dental schooling such as Pankey Institute, etc. What I learned in dental school is practically obsolete! If you live in a congestive area, you MUST be competitive and stay up to date with all the newest trends. After 4 years of college, and 4 years of dental school, you realize that you will always be learning new products, techniques, etc. For some people that is exciting, for others exhausting.
i personally believe that dentistry is wonderfully challenging and exciting everyday.Health Question & Answer
