i have to get molds taken tomorrow i dont know what to do i cant stop thinking about it and im scared to gag and throw up i hate throwing up its the worst can some one give me tips to relax and not gag please anyone help!!! im freaking out.Health Question & Answer

When I had all my moulds/impressions done at the Orthodontists, I felt as though I was going to gag until they took it out. It's tricky, to not get that gag 'reflex' but they told me a few ways to avoid that strange feeling.
- Breath through your nose, focus on breathing through your nose rather than your mouth.
- Wiggle your toes, and focus on that
- Focus on a picture/photo or something in the office that you can look at.
As the impressions are only left in for usually no more than 2 minutes, it's qutie easy to focus on something else.
If the weather is colder, it will take a little longer. If it's boiling, shorter.
Ask for different flavours. Mine was a vanilla flavour, which was absolutley disgusting, and the smell was horrifying, but there are plenty of other flavours of the 'plastacine mould' stuff. Just ask!
Ask the dental assistant, or the dentist/orthodontist themselves to distract you while you have it in!! That will work! Health Question & Answer

When they are taking the impressions, you need to focus on one spot somewhere in the room. Keep your eyes open; closing them actually makes it worse. Breathe through your nose. Those girls take impressions everyday and should be very good at it. Ask them to use warm water when mixing the impression material as it makes the material set up faster.Health Question & Answer

haha once i was getting a retainer mold done and i threw up into my dentist's face...
