Please, for Dentists, and/or their Assistants (personal experience is welcome as long as its genuine)?!

Question: Please, for Dentists, and/or their Assistants (personal experience is welcome as long as its genuine).?
It's now 10 days after a molar extraction, and I keep touching the site with my tongue out of habit. Its still quite tender, and I think the healing has been slow due to my smoking (I started smoking on the 5th day after). I am continuing warm salt water gentle gargling after anything I eat. At this stage, can a dry socket still be caused (due to very tender tissue), or other complications.? Is it advisable (or not) to re-start antibiotics.? (stopped them on day 6 after the required dose). So far the pain in minimal, with the odd (but very dull) headache and ear ache, but nothing major.

I am travelling in 3 days and there will be a lot of drinking going on.

Any advice on air travel 2 weeks after an extraction.?

Your knowledgeable input will greatly help as I do tend to worry about having any complications while on holiday. I know I will have to stay away from the harder meats.

For goodness sakes...Why don't you call your dentist and ask these questions.? Don't be embarrassed to call. These are good questions! My husband is a dentist and he likes his patients to have good results. He appreciates it when someone calls him for advice vs doing what their friends tell them. Go for it...call right now.Health Question & Answer

HI! Ok, here to start:

-Im sorry but smoking tends to dislodge the blood clot and scab in the socket which may lead tosecondary infection of the socket(bone) which leads to dry socket.

-then, I would advise you to be concious about your tongue habit, which may also dislodge the scab/ blood clot (for repair)

-Its ok that you have finished the antibiotics without missing any of it, just take the pain meds every 4-6hours if the pain is intolerable

Then just continue your good job taking care of the socket and drink lots of fluids and vitamin C and E which may help your body to repair the wound faster.
