My New Retainers Are Hurting?!

Question: My New Retainers Are Hurting.?
I JUST got new retainers, I've never had a brace, and I've been wearing them for about two an a half hours I think. Now the bottom right side of my mouth is really painful and it only stops if I take the retainers out which I don't want to do. Is this just one of those things that happens for the first few days or is there anything I can do to make it stop hurting or hurt less.? Thanks, Georgia.Health Question & Answer

Your teeth are moving. They're gonna hurt for awhile, but you'll get used to it. You can try some Ambesol to soothe the gums, but otherwise there isn't too much you can do. Stay away from really hard foods!! Soup is the best!! Or maybe french fries....Health Question & Answer

omg me 2! Im with ya! I really want to take them out but know I can't unless I eat or brush my teeth. I am considering going back to bed and sleeping it off for a while and hoping that the pain will go away in just a few days. I didn't really expect my retainer to hurt but then again I have been wrong before! lol. I would just suggest taking some aspirin and taking a nap. Eat some soft food for a few days and hang in there! I know exactly what your dealing with! Health Question & Answer

Call your orthodontist. They may need to be adjusted if they are rubbing or pinching your gums. No reason to suffer.Health Question & Answer
