I am petrified of the dentist?!

Question: I am petrified of the dentist.?
I am 11 years old will be 12 in a month. I am SO scared of the dentist. I've had a horrible experience of dental issues. I am pretty sure i have 3 cavities. One is extremely bad, it is chipped off! Food gets stuck in where it is chipped so i get it out with a toothpick and then when i do it for like 30 seconds it starts to bleed. Do you think i will need a rote canal or something.? I have no idea why but i really just want to be put to sleep and they can do everything on my mouth and it will all be over. I also have braces, i've had them for 2 years now. My mom doesn't even know that i have 3 cavities. I am completely petrified. I am so scared of the needles - its my worst thing i hate about the dentist. It hurts so much! There are all like oh its only gonna be a pinch and it feels like it is going through my cheek!!! Please help me!!! When i think about the dentist for at least 5 minuets, i start to cry! Please just help me i have no clue what to say or do or anything! Thank You! Health Question & Answer

There is really no need to worry. I am 24 and still scared of the dentist, and have had bad experiences! But, the only part that you will really feel is the needle. When they go to give you the shot, if you ask them they will put some numming stuff on before they stick the needle in. Then when they go to put it in, just take a deep breath. Trust me, I have had my fair share of shots, and I used to be just like you and still am, but the more calm you are, the better it is. I don't know about the root canals, but when they numb you, you won't feel a thing. Its a good thing to get your teeth done while you are young, because they only get worse when you are older. Just be brave! They can't kill ya! hah..good luck!Health Question & Answer

Me too. Dentists suck but the only part that hurts is when they stick the needle in the gums to numb everything. Go and get it over with before it gets worse!

When you're 25 and think back, you'll be glad you got your teeth all fixed up nice.Health Question & Answer

Hey there!
There are sedation dentists. They give you a little pill, you wait a bit until it kicks in and all's well. If you look in your local phone book you'll find one. I feel for you. I loathe going to the dentist too! Health Question & Answer

No offense but do you brush your teeth.? Cavities are not the end of the world, don't worry. I was petrified when i was 10 too but now i am 12. If you have the right dentist you will fell safer to. And if you do need to be put to sleep ask for laughing gas instead but they will give you a shot in the gums but it doesn't hurt. I have a 3 yr old bro and his punch(not hard like a spider you cant feel it)feels like a shot. I had that done once i was the bravest 11 yr for 3 months they hadHealth Question & Answer

My brother had horrible cavities like that recently and he'd never been to the dentist before so he didn't know what to expect. Its not horrible. I've been wearing braces for almost 3 years and I'm still alive :) Anyway, ask if you can watch a movie or listen to your ipod while your there. And you don't feel the needles because they're little. The doctor does it subtly and it numbs the side of your mouth immediatly. I was SO scared of getting my cavities fixed but like I said, it wasn't horrible. Just think positive and tell the dentist "Hey, I'm kinda squemish being here" so he/she will know to be extra nice to you...lolHealth Question & Answer

Haha, there's nothing to be worried about. of course, that's not for me to decide though, because my dad is the dentist =.= anyways. even I'm scared at times, but the dentist really isn't trying to hurt you. and think positive- if you didn't have that needle (yeah, it does hurt a little..) (which i'm guessing is to make it numb) you would actually feel the pain AND the pressure and it would hurt a lot more. you can also take some advil or tylenol before you go, so the pain goes down a little bit. and make sure you take care of your mouth so you DON'T have to go to the dentist too often :)Health Question & Answer
