What's the worst thing about getting fixed braces (having them actually put on)?!

Question: What's the worst thing about getting fixed braces (having them actually put on).?
I'm not going to ask about the pain, because the people I have asked always give varying answers, so I guess it's different for each person.
I also realise it could effect my speech and eating, I'm also prepared for that due to my current removable braces.
The thing I'm most curious about is the worst thing when you're actually sat there getting them put on.
If you're going to write something dumb and unhelpful, please do not bother, because it just bores me.
So insightful answers would be appreciated; I'm pretty anxious.
Thank you.Health Question & Answer

They don't alter your speech, but you can't eat solid foods, e.g. you can't bite straight into an apple or a chocolate from the fridge, etc.

The worse thing for me is because my lips are thin, they had to use this awful plastic thing to pull my lips to my ear! It didn't hurt, but it was very uncomfortable.Health Question & Answer

Really the worst thing IS when you get them on and tightened.

Wear chapstick (your lips do get dry from having your mouth open so long)
And take a tylenol or similar meds. Your jaw and teeth are going to ache for a little while. (Sometimes a few days, sometimes just a couple hours)

And the mold is kinda nasty, but there's not much you can do and it's quick.Health Question & Answer

I had braces and I asked the same question you did. Yeah a lot of people give you alot of different opinions about how much it hurts but what I thought was the worst part of getting them put on was when they have to put metal brackets on your back teeth. They have to push pretty hard on your teeth to get those all the way on and that kinda hurts. The fact that the whole process takes a long time is no picnic either, but none of it is an extremely big deal. You'll be fine. Plus the results are worth getting them, my teeth looked like hell and now they look great.Health Question & Answer

When they're putting them on your whole mouth tastes like something awful, not sure what it is though. The thing they use to keep your lips away is really really uncomfortable and can hurt a little. When they put the wires on they use this thing that kinda scared me, I'm a bit of a wimp, my dentist also accidentally hurt my gum with it.

Some brackets might rub against your mouth, you'll be given some wax to put on those bits that hurt. If you have an overbite where your top teeth rub against where the brackets are then you'll probably be given a mouth guard to wear at night. If your lips get dry then put some chap stick on your lips, it won't kill the glue
Good luck!Health Question & Answer

well, it took an hour for them to put all of mine on and its kind of hard to fall asleep because they have this sucking thing that takes all the moisture out so i was seriously bored. i ended up counting how many dots there were on each tile on the ceiling. the cement stuff tastes really bad, and smells like pritt stick. afterwards you can't really talk either, so don't go straight back to school!
hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer

It should not hurt. Its pretty fast and they will put a wire in that will not cause any discomfort. Later in the tx. you will need to take Tylenol before the appt. because it can be uncomfortable. BTW the blue light they use is a curing light. It hardens the cement that bonds the brackets to your tooth. It is a cool light so it will not get hot. Health Question & Answer

oh when you get them put on its basically pain free.
they have something in your mouth to keep it open then they put the caps on(actually tht might hurt a little if the have to take them out and put them back in to get the right size) then they glue the brackets on and put the wires on then your done.
hopefully tht helps, good luck (= Health Question & Answer

you go and get your mouth molded for the braces and they take pictures, and then they put them on like the next month. they take this glue stuff that looks like finger nail glue, brush it on your teeth, and they use tweezers to stick the braces on. after that you wash out your mouth ( it feels so weird ) and then they put the wire inside the braces things.
then they send you home. the next time they tighten them and i had my bottom ones put on.
then they just tighten them the next 4-5 times,
then i got on a power band on my bottom teeth.
then they took it off.
there is usually about exactly 1 month between visits.
thats all ive went through so far.
my teeth look so much straighter now!
i have had them since july.
so, about 6mos.
hope this helps!
and good luck with them!

oh.
and they take this like blue light thing, and put it in your mouth and it feels like a magnet or something.
it's weird.
it dries the cement i think. ( the stuff that looks like finger nail glue ) Health Question & Answer
