I have an abscess tooth, and I'm getting it removed next week. Will it hurt.? I mean, I have had a tooth removed surgically.. but I was under so much medicine, that I didn't know/feel anything. And I worry that this might be different. also, what about the aftercare.? Will I be able to go out to places without being in pain or the place where the tooth was pulled hurting me.?Health Question & Answer

I just had one cut out Tuesday..My dentist had to give me 6 diff numbing shots to get me completely numb..My abcess was really bad though! Dont worry about it. I promise you will feel MUCH better after its out! Are you on antibiotic right now.? I was on 2000mgs for a week b4 they would touch mine. They moved me down to 1000mgs now tho. Pain wise afterwards, My jaw is sore & my gums are bruised but, like i said i had a really bad abcess..They had to drill into my jaw bone. Anways other than being a lttle sore,Im fine! Your dentist should give you some pain meds to deal with the discomfort. He/She will also tellyu how to correctly take care of it. Goodluck! Trust me, You will feel SO much better! I agree with some of these answers and disagree with some. As far as pain it all depends...how you tolerate pain, how bad the infection is, postion of the tooth, the dentist and the pain relief they offer and so on. So for someone it is not going to hurt at all is just not right. I can suggest that you keep letting the dr know that you can feel him pulling the tooth and get the max pain relief/sedation/novacaine for during the procedure and after. I can promise you one thing, if you are really hurting and have lots of infection it will be worth it!Health Question & Answer
I've had six teeth pulled in my life, three of them wisdom teeth. Basically, there is no pain with extractions and modern dentistry. You'll be drugged up so much during the procedure you won't feel a thing, and by the time the drugs wear off, it won't hurt any more. Just be sure to rinse the socket with salt water. You're actually hurting more with the abcess now than you will after the extraction!Health Question & Answer
Don't worry, i am super scared of the needles, like REALLY scared of them.
and i had to get my tooth pulled out right, i told my dentist that i was super scared. so she put more numbing cream stuff then usual.
and then she got the needle out! i was like OMG.. but then i was like is it in yet, and it had been in my gum the whole time. and i didn't feel anything.
after that you cant feel anything when they yank it out.

Not to worry you, but when there is an abscess or infection involved with an extraction, sometimes it is more difficult for the anesthetic to get you completely numb. You might possibly want to request being sedated for this one.Health Question & Answer
