If I have an over-bite do I definitely have to get a headset?!

Question: If I have an over-bite do I definitely have to get a headset.?
I heard that if you had an over-bite you had to get a headset to fix it, and I REALLY don't want one. =(Health Question & Answer

No no necessarily. Have you seen people where those rubber bands on there braces. They attach them right to it and you have to remove when you eat and replace after. But those things actually move you jaw forward and in some cases can replace a head gear. Anymore if a orthodontist uses a head gear it is only at night. Good Luck.Health Question & Answer

No, you wont need to wear a headset. You get rubber bands that attach from the top and bottom hooks on your brackets. I was supposed to wear rubber bands for about 6 months because of my over-bite but i never wore mine and 2 day ago i got forcers. If you do get rubber bands, make sure you wear them because i have forcers and their big springs in your mouth and now i cant eat solid food for 6 months only liqiuds. so if you get rubber bands, MAKE SURE YOU WERE THEM! =]Health Question & Answer

hmm well i had an over bite and they just removed 4 of my back teeth (2 upper, 2 lower)...
they didnt say i needed a headset lol...i think thats for an underbite.
but now my whole mouth and teeth look so much better w/o an overbite.
And even if they do want you to wear a head set, ur ortho will prolly tell you to just wear it at night...
no matter how silly it looks, in the end you will have fabulous teeth!=]
andd on the plus side headsets these days are very modern and less dorky looking..Health Question & Answer

Yes, you do! I'm sooo sorry! I feel your pain, I probably have the worst over bite possible to get, and I have to get one! Don't worry its only in the evening or if you're at home and just having a lazy weekend or something. The more you wear it the faster you get to get rid of that stupid head gear!! Good luck!Health Question & Answer
