Does your dentist put medicated stuff in your teeth?!

Question: Does your dentist put medicated stuff in your teeth.?
My dentist has done root canals and fillings. But he always just puts this medicated stuff in the tooth that feels like chalk. It wears away and eventually, the tooth has a deep hole in it.

Then, a couple weeks later, he makes an appointment to fill the tooth. Why can't he just fill the tooth at the same appointment.?

Does anyone else's dentist do this.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
The chalky stuff is a temporary filling. There are loads of different theories whether to finish a root canal treatment or not in one visit. Many think it is best to leave it for around a week, with a medicated dressing in it, with a temporary filling over the top. This gives the medicated dressing time to work, as there could be further problems with the tooth if it is permanently filled, and the dressing has not had time to work. Others, on the other hand think it is best to fill the tooth on the same occasion as the root canals had been cleaned. This way there would be effective moisture control, and should prevent any bacteria entering the canals. Its just purely down to dentist choice!!Health Question & Answer

That will be a great topic for you to discuss with your dentist. The chalk thingy is a temporary filling for the next appointment.Health Question & Answer
