It is possible, i've heard of dentists doing that. which I think is horrible to screw people like that. Get your x-rays and go to another dentist to have him check you out. Its even possible that last year when you went he didn't pay enough attention and missed decay that you had.
and on an x-ray the decay shows up darker then the tooth. Like most of the tooth will show up white, and the decayed part will show up black.Health Question & Answer

the trend in dentistry is to remove decay at it's earliest stages where we used to wait until the decay extended about 1mm into the tooth. with the advent of laser diagnosis we are able to detect the decay at it's beginning and thus do micro dentistry rather than larger fillings. this is also due to the fact that we are using newer and better filling materials where as the older silver fillings had to be a certain thickness and width or they would most certainly break.

i can assure you that there are shiesters in every profession including dentistry. i can also assure you that there is plenty of work to go around and there really is no reason to lie in dental diagnosis. if you are wondering about your diagnosis, there is nothing wrong with a second opinion.Health Question & Answer

Cavities look like dark spots in the bone on an x-ray. You may just want to ask him how big they are... It is possible even if you take great care of your teeth for small cavities to appear. also, if they are larger cavities, I would request to see the previous visits x-ray to see why/how they were missed before. If they are small cavities, it is best to go ahead and get them filled so they do not cause bigger problems down the road. If you are still unsure, I would seek a second opinion, but you may need to check with your insurance company as the additional x-rays at another provider's office may not be covered.
I hope this helps!Health Question & Answer
