Parathesia after wisdom tooth extraction?!

Question: Parathesia after wisdom tooth extraction.?
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and now I am experiencing parathesia, which means I cannot feel my lip or chin. Has anyone else ever experienced this. They say it can be permanent, but I am just looking for some encouraging stories that it will possibly go away.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
This is actually pretty common when wisdom teeth are extracted, the nerve that runs through your jaw and supplies your lower lip and chin is right under those teeth, so with the surgery and the swelling, etc that goes with it, the nerve gets compressed slightly and you experience this as numbness. It can go away in a week or two, or sometimes take a few months to slowly fade, but this is normal for a lot of people. If there was any actual damage to the nerve, the surgeon would have been obligated to tell you at the time, so I would not worry about that.Health Question & Answer

Hi sis,
I didn't experience this myself but I looked up a little about it for you. I quote this from an article.

"The risk of paresthesia is minor in routine dental extractions and when it does occur the effects are usually temporary. Permanent paresthesia occurs in about 1% of impacted tooth extraction cases."

It said most people's are tempory unless the tooth was impacted. Were any of your teeth impacted.? And even if your tooth was impacted, only 1% of these cases ended up with permanent paesthesia. So don't worry. I'm sure you'll be perfectly normal again. You're in His loving hands. I'll say a prayer for you.Health Question & Answer

Usually it gets better, but often it takes up to three months. I assume you have already talked to the dentist about it.? If not, please do that soon.Health Question & Answer
