Wearing rubber bands?!

Question: Wearing rubber bands.?
I've had braces for a while now and am wearing rubber bands. I was told that it will fix my teeth and jaw. Does it narrow or widen your jaw/ chin.? How does it affect your jaw/ chin.? Does it narrow it, widen it.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It will depend on the pattern you've been told to wear the rubber bands in, but most of the time they do not widen or narrow anything, they bring the upper and lower teeth together correctly. If your lower jaw (and thus teeth) were too far back versus your upper teeth/jaw, your orthodontist will have you wearing them in a pattern to bring your upper teeth back a bit and your lower teeth forward a bit. It does not really alter the jaw bones, just wear the teeth are within the bones. Your jaw/chin won't be affected.Health Question & Answer
