all the answers you have received are GREAT... but I don't think I seen anyone mention what bad breath you will have go buy a few mini bottles of scope or something to keep with you.

Follow the doctors instructions ie...
NO SMOKING
NO DRINKING FROM A STRAW
LIQUIDS(SOLIDS WITH GET IN THE GUMS AND CAUSE INFECTION/BAD BREATH)
LOTS OF REST THE FIRST DAY
HEAT 20 MINS ICE 20 MINS TO RELIEVE SWELLING
AND IBUPROFEN TO RELIEVE SWELLING.

GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPSHealth Question & Answer

it varies from person to person, I had mine for almost 2 weeks but I also wound up getting a dry socket which are even more painful and happen commonly in the lower wisdom teeth. Some people are able to eat normal food in 2 to 3 days and others week. The swelling should last a couple of days, n the pain again is a depends on the individual person thing though your doctor or oral surgeon will usually provide you witha prescription pain reliever and an antibiotic.also the younger you are the easier it is to remove them with less trauma to the surrounding areas. If your teeth are impacted its likely that it will hurt more then just getting them pulled due to more trauma that is created in the surrounding tissues, also my oral surgeon gave me an ice pack to help with the swelling. also you want to make s ure you stay away from straws any any hot foods or liquids as these can cause the clot to dislodge and result ina painful dry socket. Your doctor should provide you and go over with you and the person taking you the directions and what not for after the procedure.Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Make sure you have somebody to take you home. When i got mine removed, they put me under. I remember them prepping me, then i woke up at my parents' house. The pain wasn't too bad, just a dull ache that lasted for a week or so. Nothing the vicodin couldn't take care of. The swelling was down enough so I could comfortably close my teeth together on day 3 or 4.

Make sure you have a lot of soft foods available to you. Yogurt, jell-o, broth-y soups, etc. NO straws or anything that requires you to suck. You want to be careful not to dislodge your clots, otherwise it can lead to dry socket, which i hear is very painful. also, when things start to heal up, keep the sockets as clean as you can, otherwise you can get an infection (like i had), which is incredibly painful.Health Question & Answer

In my experience there was very little pain. After they were extracted I went back to work right away. My experience might have just been better than some. I have known some people who were so afraid that they set up an appointment to be hospitalized after having them pulled.

I think if you just make up your mind that it will all be ok, you will not have much of a problem.

Good luck & have a merry Christmas.Health Question & Answer

it really depends on how your teeth have erupted. for me, i had a straightforward extraction. i didn't swell, and i didn't need to take pain meds. heck, i was eating a turkey dinner the day after...Health Question & Answer
